Why Cash PT?
With recent changes in third-party payers in the healthcare industry, many Americans have seen out-of-pocket expense (copays and deductibles) increase. In the field of physical therapy, patients are seeing time spent one-on-one with their therapist decrease. With these changes, cash-based physical therapy practices have been on the rise.
In this non-traditional practice, physical therapists have free range to treat a patient as they see fit outside of the confines of third-party payer (insurance) requirements, documentation needs, and physician referrals. With the progression of the physical therapy profession to a clinical doctorate, clinicians have the education level to evaluate patients and create a working diagnosis without being sent from a physician. (PT’s are also trained to recognize certain red flags, and refer to a physician as appropriate.) Without these barriers, a physical therapist is able to spend a significantly greater amount of time one-on-one with his/her patient. This then allows for fewer overall, higher quality visits.
In addition to having fewer, higher-quality visits centered around you, you may be able to be reimbursed for your payment. Some insurances will provide reimbursement for out-of-network providers, and Jillian can provide you with a coded invoice to submit.
